Global Conference on Caste, Business and Society (CBS Conference) aims to be the leading conference for research on caste
Shaping the Future of Research on Caste, Join the Journey
The caste system, as a social phenomenon prevalent in South Asia and among its diaspora spread around the world, shapes the socioeconomic lives of over a quarter of the world’s population. It limits socioeconomic opportunities to individuals who are at the bottom of the caste system (i.e., over 500 million middle castes, marginalized as “shudras”) or outside it (i.e., nearly 300 million Dalits, stigmatized as “untouchables” and over 100 million Indigenous peoples, alienated as “tribals”). So, there is growing recognition of the ways in which caste affects organizations and societies, as well as the need to better understand these processes and address them.
As a lens, “caste” is a potential tool to understand systemic inequalities around the world as well as to better understand how systems of inequality shape modern structures and practices within organizations and societies.
In line with its vision, the CBS Conference seeks to provide an inexpensive, intimate and safe space to share research, give/receive feedback, and improve research and practice. It is designed to be small-scale and multidisciplinary in nature.
